last man standing

the morning of the day that m was to arrive...

there was some last minute studying of the now defunct meal schedule.

it looked as if m's side of the bed, possibly a welcome home courtesy. rumor has it that the other side of the bed was even made by saturday afternoon.
 vanity, not in good shape
and the laundry is also a little worse for the wear.
welcome home, m. never leave us again.

to our readers in the lower 48, in honduras, alaska, germany and poland, your humble documentarians are grateful for your readership and are signing off.

god speed.

two countries, no home

well, things are getting a little bleak. we are coming around the corner and all parties - j, m and your humble documentarians - are getting a little fatigued.

the fig newtons have made it through the duration of m's absence. and in addition to food, we now have some kitchen supplies and accessories on the counter as well as evidence of miss bit. she seems to like counter lounging too.
m's side of the bed is not holding its own anymore, it has succumbed to the "sleeping tornado". in fact it looks as if the sheets are about to start coming off the bed with one more night. we will have to keep a close eye on these developments.
four more days. to our reader in germany, willkommen!

glass half full

trusty has run away five times. m has been gone for seven days.

we haven't had a kitchen counter inspection in a few days, so here we are. saltines and triscuits look like they've had the most traffic. cherry tomatoes may need intervention. subway tile backsplash is still so nice, even with its foreground littered with pantry snacks. we had extensive discussion on peanut butter this week, as well as a working out of meal schedule kinks of week one.
mail and even the new york times is starting to go unopened. does that plant look a little depressed? it is possible that j decided that neat and orderly were overrated. or that pinto has been gone for days.
the infamous meal schedule is inside the red zig zag folder sitting next to his reading chair. a pen is securely fastened to the folder, most likely for the ongoing amendments. not enough data to hypothesize on the leather sandals.

k noted that m's side of the bed is still relatively in order...
while j's side is completely disheveled.
laundry is starting to flow past the basket. as a new emerging crisis, we will keep a close eye on the developments.
the meal schedule for the coming week is making the chain of command a little nervous. lots of meals based on the day before.

day 6: the come back kid

they say you have to hit rock bottom before things get better.

suddenly, other than an coffee mug and a lid to a cotton swab container, everything is in place.
 laundry in the hamper
mail sorted, neatly in stacks
can't win them all...

it is possible that this is the work of the housekeeper, who will we refer to as "pinto". but the photos were taken 12 hours after she left, so the evidence is mounting.

take out and drive thru has been the band aid for the bleeding wound that is the meal schedule. but just to cover our bases, here is the schedule for week two. in addition, a to-do list.
lastly, whoever our reader is in alaska, welcome to the weird, beautiful world of a man on his own.

high five

the first positive sign, a stripped bed, which means that the housekeeper has landed. unfortunately, said housekeeper was also on the schedule to make dinner tonight and all she brought was a bag of dried pinto beans. k said "at least he will have fresh sheets and a made bed." m's clothes hanging on door and possible thera-band wrapped around doorknob noted.
the closet is also starting to feel the weight of m's absence. clothes, instruction manuals, metered mail, office supplies and watches strewn around.
possibly his way of protesting the ongoing meal scheduling errors, would rather look at mail over an empty table with no food.
m is not answering the phone. "she probably knows everything is going downhill"

a tricky third day

things are getting a little complicated.

dogs are running away, meals are falling through and there is no plan b for the meal schedule. this could go either way.

deux

Bed still unmade, pillow and sheet displacement has possibly increased.
food is starting to migrate towards the sink. has introduced planters nuts and ruffles to the repertoire.
appears to be reading french comic books in the downtime.
